World Archery and World Archery Africa, with support from the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the World Archery Knowledge Sharing programme, have announced a National Classifier Training Course for Physically Impaired Athletes. The course will take place in Pretoria, South Africa, from 12 to 14 November 2026.
Classification is the essential gateway to para sport, ensuring fair competition and equal opportunities for athletes with physical impairments. This training course serves as a critical step in building national capability and expanding para archery across the African continent.

The curriculum covers the IPC Classification Code, eligible impairment evaluation, minimum impairment criteria, adaptive equipment, practical assessments, observation, and written testing.
Participant Criteria & Eligibility
Each national federation may nominate up to two participants. Candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Qualified medical doctor (with experience in underlying health conditions leading to eligible impairments) OR qualified physiotherapist (or related discipline with clinical experience in physical impairments).
- Experience evaluating patients or athletes with physical impairments causing activity restrictions.
- Familiarity with the sport of archery is expected.
- Must provide an official commitment letter from their national member association.
Note: Priority is given to African federations that currently lack certified World Archery national or international classifiers.
Course Costs & Inclusions
Thanks to IPC and World Archery Knowledge Sharing grants, local expenses are heavily subsidized:
- Registration Fee: €100 per person (Shared double room accommodation)
- Single room upgrade available for an additional €40/night (€160 total)
- Included: Full course access, accommodation, 3 daily meals, and airport transfers (JNB to Pretoria).
- Exclusions: International airfare, visa fees, and personal travel/health insurance.
